Dating from the late 1700's early 1800's this mahogany officers campaign travelling chest or chest of drawers in excellent original condition would have been an essential part of their baggage.
With a pair of strong brass carrying handles to the sides and four steel threaded mahogany removable legs with brass castors this piece of furniture could be packed up and moved at very short notice.
On opening the lockable top, still with the original key, there is an adjustable mirror with the original plate, various compartments, glass toiletry bottles, silver plated ink and sand bottles and other items.
Underneath the pullout writing surface (original baize) which can be lifted up to access more storage there is a lead lined drawer with a blue and white china washing bowl.
A large glass water bottle is stored in the deep drawer at the side.
The lower drawer is used to store the legs whilst travelling as well as for keeping maps etc.
All the items shown in the photograph are included in the price of the campaign chest.
A wonderful piece of furniture in remarkably good original condition, although the brass lid stay needs attention, the bottom middle drawer handle has a split and one glass toiletry bottle has a chip. See photos.
