Origin: England   Period: 1840's - 1850's

A rare metal-mounted painted oak and mahogany military bookcase fitted with a pair of lockable mahogany doors enclosing four adjustable mahogany shelves.

A unique and useful piece of furniture.

On the outside bottom edge there are two metal brackets with slots: these were probably to stop the bookcase from moving when in the open position. On the inside top and bottom edge there are two substantial brass lugs that, when the bookcase is closed, would prevent any movement or damage to the two halves of the bookcase when being transported…etc...

Condition: wear and tear commensurate with age and inner door locks are later replacements.
