Georgian Military Campaign Writing Slope

A good quality campaign writing slope or box dating from the 1800's.

The slope is completely brass bound around all the edges to help protect the mahogany from damage and there is also brass stylised inlay decoration to the front and both of the brass inlaid cartouches are still vacant. Both of the the inset brass carrying handles are in excellent order.

This slope, when opened, could have been used as a reading lectern. There is a brass angle-stay (replaced) on the inside edge go keep the box in the open reading position but, the wooden book rest that would have been used on the outside edge is now missing, but it could be easily replaced. On the inside leading edge there are two brass candle plates for holding a pair of candle sconces.

Condition: minor restorations, leather skiver replaced and wear and tear commensurate with age.
