17th Century Oak Coffer or Chest

Origin: England   Period: Late 17th Century

A beautifully carved panelled oak coffer with excellent colour and patination.

The low-relief carving on the frieze and front panels, as well as the sides, are typical of this type of chest.

This chest is quite old and shows obvious signs of age.

The bottom has some old fabric patches.

The carving could have been added during the Victorian era (We are not sure; if it was it was done very well).

Late 17th century.
