Origin: Scottish   Period: circa 1860

A wonderfully made tiny Beechwood and steel thumb or hollowing out plane used by Luthiers to carve the very intricate interiors of violins.

This particular violin plane was made / retailed by Dobie, Ironmongers, 205 Argyle St., Glasgow, Scotland in the 19th century.
