A rare and wonderful military officer’s steel and iron campaign armchair c. 1860-1880.
This great looking armchair folds practically flat and compact for the ease of transportation.
It opens easily and quickly into either an armchair, with a reclining backrest which can be set in two different positions, or an armchair with a footrest or, further still, it can be extended flat to make a solid and sturdy bed.
Originally this chair would have been supplied with a thin horsehair mattress.
The chair is finished with turned ebonised front legs which have steel rods running through the middle that connects to the castors.
A truly versatile piece of campaign furniture from the 19th century.
We can see this great foldable chair/daybed finished off with three loose buttoned leather upholstered cushions and arm rests in a mustard or a brown colour.
